Abraxas Youth & Family Services, established in 1973, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting at-risk youth, adults, and families through a variety of programs. With a presence in five states, including Illinois, Abraxas offers both residential and community-based services.
In Illinois, Abraxas operates Southwood Interventions in Chicago, providing residential substance abuse treatment and medically monitored detoxification for adults. They also offer outpatient substance abuse treatment services, including intensive outpatient programs and DUI reevaluation and treatment. Additionally, Woodridge Interventions in Woodridge serves individuals aged 13 and above with residential substance abuse treatment, recovery home step-down programs, and outpatient services. The Naperville Bridge School in Woodridge offers alternative educational services for youth facing emotional and behavioral challenges.
Abraxas’s approach is client-centered and trauma-focused, emphasizing treatment, behavioral health services, educational and vocational support, life skills development, family counseling, recreation, and community engagement. Their programs are guided by seven key principles of care: meaningful interaction, structure, consistency, personal standards, commitment, sincerity, and professionalism. These principles ensure a safe, structured, and supportive environment conducive to personal growth and positive change.
With a history spanning five decades, Abraxas Youth & Family Services remains committed to building better futures for those they serve, continually adapting to meet the evolving needs of communities across Illinois and beyond.
