Sobriety House Inc., located at 121 Acoma Street, Denver, Colorado, is the state’s oldest licensed substance use disorder treatment center, established in 1967. As a nonprofit organization, it is dedicated to providing high-quality, effective services through a comprehensive continuum of care, supporting clients in achieving lifelong recovery regardless of their financial situation.
Rooted in the 12-step model and evidence-based practices, Sobriety House offers several adult substance use disorder programs, with a focus on residential treatment. The facility provides a safe, quiet, home-like setting, staffed by professionals with lived experience, including master’s-level and licensed counselors. With small client-to-counselor ratios, the center ensures personalized attention and care.
The residential treatment programs are divided into two phases: Intensive Residential Treatment (IRT) and Transitional Residential Treatment (TRT). The IRT phase is a 28-day program where clients attend three groups daily, seven days a week, focusing on themes such as Feelings Awareness, Sobriety Maintenance, Stress Management, and Assertiveness Training. Clients also participate in weekly individual counseling sessions. During this phase, clients remain on campus and do not have access to personal electronic devices.
The TRT phase can extend up to four months, with clients attending evening group sessions twice a week and weekly individual counseling. This phase encourages reintegration into the community, requiring clients to engage in activities such as employment, education, volunteering, or attending support meetings during the day. Clients have limited access to personal electronic devices during this phase.
Sobriety House serves priority populations, including pregnant women who use drugs by injection, individuals involuntarily committed to treatment, and veterans. The center accepts Medicaid and offers affordable costs compared to typical treatment fees, ensuring accessibility for those in need.
With a legacy spanning over five decades, Sobriety House remains committed to breaking the stigma of addiction and creating a world where recovery is celebrated, embraced, and accessible to all.
