Akeela, Inc., established in 1974, is one of Alaska’s oldest and most diverse behavioral health organizations, offering a comprehensive range of services for the prevention and treatment of substance and alcohol abuse, as well as mental health services.
In Anchorage, Akeela provides both outpatient and residential substance use treatments. The Akeela House Recovery Center is a 48-bed, co-ed, long-term residential therapeutic community program that offers supportive treatment in a safe and structured environment for clients to initiate or continue their recovery process. The Akeela Outpatient Program serves men and women who assess at the ASAM I or II.1 level, offering outpatient and intensive outpatient services, including group and individual counseling for 12 to 18 weeks with an emphasis on relapse prevention.
For women requiring residential treatment, the Stepping Stones program provides long-term care for those assessed at an ASAM III.5 level, allowing children to live with their mothers in 15 individual apartments. This program serves individuals with co-occurring disorders and offers daycare for children while mothers attend treatment. Additionally, the Akeela Women and Families Program offers outpatient services to women assessed at the ASAM I or II.1 level, providing group and individual counseling focused on relapse prevention.
Akeela also operates an Assessment Center, centrally located to all its programs, where applicants needing mental health or substance use treatment services can receive appropriate assessments and referrals to suitable treatment services.
Beyond Anchorage, Akeela extends its services to other regions. In Kenai and Homer, the organization offers the Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP), a misdemeanor probation office that monitors treatment and compliance for the court and/or DMV.
Akeela’s mission is to enhance the ability of citizens and their families to succeed in life, striving to build resiliency and wellness throughout the lifespan of Alaskans.
